This is one of the traditional large leaf China teas, but is dried or 'fired' over tarred hemp, the smoke from which imparts a distinctive smoky scent and flavour to the tea. Souchong is the grade, incidentally - Pouchong and Oolong are likewise grades. The tarry, pine scent, like the Bergamot in Earl Grey’s mixture, enhances the refreshing quality. No milk, just a slice of lemon sees the best result.
